Administrative Review of AoC Round of 16 Match LoS vs. kLu

RTS League as the prominent and longest running Age of Empires competition strives to provide the community of one the most iconic gaming classics with tournaments testing your skills and bringing you loads of fun along the way. While we are primarily aimed at friendly competing in a not-so-formal setting, some rules need to be in place to make sure games are fair and no one gets cheated out of their deserved accomplishments. Thanks to this approach and also the continuous support by the community itself RTS League continues to live strong even 13 years after its creation, sporting the 35th Season of Age of Empires II: The Conquerors Clan League.

Usually clans and players stick to the goal of the League to have fun in friendly competitive games, but ever so often somebody crosses the line in an attempt to get further in the tournament, to get closer to the prestigious RTS League Title, and when that happens, we, the staffers, are ready to take action to protect the integrity of the League and to keep the participating clans safe from foul play ruining their experience.

Recently a Playoff Round of 16 match between Lords of Skulls and clan kLu was played with LoS sporting a new player _Hyouka on their team who hasn't played this season yet, even though he's on the roster for several months. He performed well enough to allow his team to take a 2:0 win and eliminate kLu.

Upon posting the games, it was revealed that during the in-game chatting, one of his teammates called him "mounstro", which is a nickname of different LoS player registered and actively playing for LoS|B this season - Mounstrosity - who played the next day in a match VN vs. LoS|B. This "mistake" made us delve into the situation further, and upon in-depth checking of both players' accounts through all available means, including Voobly admin, we could safely determine that Mounstrosity has access to this account, therefore all things considered it is beyond reasonable doubt that Mounstrosity indeed did play on _Hyouka in the LoS vs. kLu match, and that his teammates knew about this.

Since Mounstrosity is a registered and active player for LoS|B, he cannot actively participate in games for other teams this season, which makes this smurfing illegal in its entirety, and therefore warranting administrative decision upon the games in question.

All things considered, the penalties are as follows:

1) Player Mounstrosity is banned from RTS League for the remainder of this season and the next one
2) LoS|A receives 2 Admin Losses for both games with the _Hyouka account used and is disqualified
3) LoS|B receives an Admin Loss for the game where Mounstrosity took part after he smurfed for LoS|A
4) LoS clan as a whole is put on a probationary period for the duration of their next active season. Any subsequent serious infraction will result in LoS being booted from the League.

This means that LoS|A is eliminated from the Playoffs and clan kLu takes their place in the Quarterfinals. Further on LoS|B is currently not in the Quarterfinals as the match result of VN vs. LoS|B now stands at 1:1 and the deciding game needs to be played, with Mounstrosity being unable to play further for LoS|B.

The purpose of this topic is not to bash or criticize any player or clan. It is merely to inform. Therefore, those who have questions in regards to the incident are more than welcome to ask, but we do not want the thread to turn into a flame-fest. For those who have not seen the games, they are currently available at AoCZone.
