Every time I log in I check all the new posts, then refresh the page to make sure no new posts have been made while I was reading. When I do this, it still shows all the boards that had new posts as having new posts still unless there actually is a new post, then it only shows the ones with actual new posts.
I hope thats understandable, its not exactly a big deal, just kinda annoying.

Yes I have noticed this as well. I am usually like "oh someone has replied to my post already and then I look and it was myself. Not a huge issue but annoying enough to the point that it needs a fix.

This is a known issue with punBB; you can read the reasoning behind it at http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=4148
I've downloaded a mod that is supposed to "fix" this behavior (meaning make it more like phpbb and other popular forums). Until I get it installed, you can use the "mark forum as read" button on the top right of the main forum page.
Logging out, then logging back in will also mark the correct topics as having been read. Again, this is only temporary until I get the mod installed, but hopefully it's better than nothing.
